Vera Clepper, 86 of Leona, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016.

Graveside services will be Sunday, December 18th at 2 p.m. at LaBahia Cemetery, Burton.

Vera was born October 3, 1930 to Frederick and Nora (Eichler) Muehlbrad in Burton. She worked many years in Houston as a secretary. Vera was named Volunteer of the Year for Brazos County in 2015. She delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years and logged over 58,000 miles.

Surviving loving family includes: brother, Eugene Muehlbrad and wife Nelda of Burton and nieces, Ruthie (Bob) and Nell Jean.

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX.

Barbara A. Clepper 1935-2010

Barbara was born on February 4, 1935 and passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2010.

Barbara was last known to be living in Newville, Pennsylvania.

Barb graduated from Shippensburg High School.

She is survived by her husband Blaine.

Barbara A. Clepper, 75, of Newville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28, 2010, in her home. She was born on Monday, February 4, 1935, in Newville, a daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Mellott) Gilbert.
Barb graduated from Shippensburg High School and was last employed by the Carlisle Chapter of the American Red Cross, where she did cleaning. Barb also performed housekeeping duties for several families in the Newville and Carlisle area.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Blaine E. Clepper, three sons; Thomas E. Clepper (and his companion, Tracy Copeland) of Newville, Joel L. Clepper (and his wife, Lorraine) of Newville and Timothy A. Clepper of St. Thomas, a daughter, Pamela S. Suma of Arizona, a brother, Thomas Gilbert of Shippensburg, a sister, Darlene Mowery (and her husband, John) of Shippensburg, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her loving dog, Killarny. Barb was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Weller, a sister-in-law, Esther Gilbert and a brother-in-law, Charles J. Riggleman.

The Moving Spirit of Ruby Kendrick Memorial

A few years ago a young Texas girl wend out as a missionary to Korea, her chosen field. There she died, following a brief year of labor, but not without implanting the gospel in the hearts and minds of the people eager to learn of a higher life. It seemed as if her death would prove a calamity, for coworkers and natives alike were not prepared for her sudden taking away.
With keen perception and an alertness that inspired confidence from the beginning, another young Texas girl began plans for continuing the work of the former and perpetuating her memory. A fund was started, a missionary was employed, and the Ruby Kendrick Memorial became a vitalizing force in the same field where the one in whose honor it was named had laid down her life.
Seven years have passed, and this fund has grown to many thousands of dollars. A number of missionaries have been employed, and this work has taken first rank in the missionary activities of our Church. Not only so, but here in Texas the lives of scores of our brightest and best people have been touched and inspired by the heroic story of Ruby Kendrick and her work, and many have given themselves and their all to the service of the Master. Throughout the length and breadth of the North Texas Conference, the home of Ruby Kendrick, and even throughout Texas itself, the influence of this work has gone.
During all this time the one directing mind and energizing force of the movement has been Miss Mary Hay Ferguson. She conceived and founded it. She build up the system of records by which the fund is now collected and distributed. She evolved a system of awards and promoted liberal and definite giving. She has been constantly in touch with the workers in the mission field and has kept the North Texas Conference aflame with missionary zeal. She visualized in her own life the Ruby Kendrick Memorial, finding the supreme joy of service in its promotion and making its success her one chief object. To her, as to no one else, is due the great success of this movement. In her own life and character she became a missionary, carrying the light of the gospel to others. Frail health has compelled her to relinquish leadership to others; but her work will abide as long as time itself shall last, and her sweet, heroic Christian character will reckoned alongside that of her comrade. The names of Ruby Kendrick and Mary Hay Ferguson will be linked together forever in the memory of the young people of Texas.

Rena Louise Clepper Bartholomew Wilson of Springhouse Lane, New Wilmington, formerly of Greenfield, Lackawannock Township, passed away Monday morning (3-4-13) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. She was 95.

Mrs. Wilson was born July 6, 1917, in Sharon, a daughter of  Glenn R. Clepper and Myrtle Brown Clepper.

She began her elementary school years at Thornton Avenue Elementary School and Charleston Grade School, subsequently graduating in 1936 from Hickory High School in what is now Hermitage.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. She worked at Bartholomew Orchards and Pony Farm and, prior to her marriage, worked for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, where she sang in the choir and played piano for Sunday school. She belonged to the Quilting Circle and was a charter member of both the Maude Ferver Bible Class and the Maude Ferver Auxiliary Missionary Society, all of the church.

She was a member of Magic Agers of Lackawannock Township and the Challenges of Lawrence County. She was a former member of AARP Wilmington Area Chapter 3954 and the New Wilmington Brunch Bunch. She enjoyed dancing.

Rena married Francis O. Bartholomew on April 20, 1940; he died Dec. 31, 1987. Her husband, Homer Wilson, whom she married June 30, 1990, died December 1998.

She is survived by: a son, P. Raymond Bartholomew and his wife Jane, Hermitage; a daughter, Sandra R. Houk and her husband Conrad L., Franklin; a sister, Ruth Wheeler, New Wilmington; two grandsons, Brian and Joseph Houk; and many nieces and nephews.

A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Arlis Clepper of Tomball at Height's hospital in Houston on October thirteenth at one a.m. The little lady was named Sandra Kay. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Leo West of Tomball. Paternal grand parents are Mr and Mrs O.M. Clepper of Tomball. Great grand mothers are Mrs Maggie Small and Mrs Willie Spell of Tomball. Tomball Couple Wed in Church Ceremony

A wedding of interet to relatives and friends in this county was solemnized Thursday evening, September11, in the First Baptist Church at Tomball, Texas when Miss Geraldine West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo West, became the bride of Arlis Roy Clepper, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Clepper, all of that city. Rev. Gerald Cannon read the wedding rights. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a diaphanous gown of nylon marquisette over taffeta, designed with a lace yoke and sweetheart neckline, outlined by a fitted lace fold. The lace mofit was repeated at the hips and in a centerpiece panel of the bouffant skirt. Her train was cathedral length and her veil of French illusion was held by a ____ of pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of red roses. Miss Irma Joyce Patterson, maid of honor, was gowned in a yellow nylon net over taffata styled with a net stole. Her had and gloves matched the dress. She carried a nosegay of orchid Esther Reid dasies. Miss Carl Maglitto and Mrs. Millard Ford Jr. were bridesmaids. They wore gowns of blue and pink, similar tot he matron of honor's gown. They carried nosegays of pink and blue Esther Reid daisies. Liggle Miss Cynthia Vought, flower girl was dressed in white, as was Ronald West, brother of the bride, who was the ring bearer. Johnny Morris Clepper served his brother as best man, while James Olan Lovett and Millard Ford, Jr., were groomsmen. Reagan Coe and Steward Lambert were ushers. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. The entire wedding party, including the minister, were school mates and were in the receiving line with the couple and their parents. Arlis Roy Clepper

Arlis Roy Clepper, 79 of Tomball, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Olen Morris and Nola Mae "Jack" (Carroll) Clepper, June 20, 1933 in Conroe, Texas. Arlis graduated from Tomball High School in 1951. He attended Sam Houston State University. Arlis married his high school sweetheart, Gerry West on September 11, 1952, and they lived together in Tomball, their entire married life. Arlis worked as a Human Resource Director for McEvoy Oil Field Equipment for over 20 years. He then became the Vice President of Hughes Tool in Houston. After retirement he worked as a photographer for Ron West Photography of Tomball, Texas. Arlis then became part owner of Texas Outdoor Power Sales and Equipment in Conroe, Texas. Arlis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tomball, was active in the Oil Patch Kids serving as President, founder of the Oil Patch Kids Scholarship Fund for Tomball High School seniors, member of the Tomball High School Alumni Association, board member of the Spring Creek Historical Museum, and a former coach for the Tomball Little League, Lions Club member and Tomball City Councilman serving as Mayor Pro-Tem. He had a passion for all sports: avid golfer, bowler, basketball and fast pitch softball player for many years and was a booster of the Tomball Cougars serving as referee and announcer for the Tomball High School football games. He always had season tickets to the Cougars home games. Arlis Clepper is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gerry West Clepper; daughters: Becky Clepper and Kay Glasscock, Son-in-law: Wayne Glasscock, Granddaughters: Leslie and Joli Glasscock; niece, Debi Clepper all of Tomball, and nephew David Clepper of Pasadena, Texas and many other nieces and nephews and very close friends. Patricia Carolyn Alcorn Clepper

Carolyn Alcorn Clepper, 70, of Liberty, TX, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011. She was a long time resident of Baytown, and a secretary for Texas Rehabilitation Commission in Baytown for 30 years. She was a member of Hardin United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she loved spending time with her family. She had two grandsons who were the light of her life. Steven Beau Broussard, a graduate of Texas A&M and South Texas College of Law where he received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence. Daryle Kade Broussard, also a graduate of Texas A&M, and is now a musician in Austin, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Bowers; parents, Leonard and Thelma Alcorn; brother, Durwood Alcorn; sons, Steve Clepper and Randy Clepper.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Clepper Broussard and husband Fred; grandsons, Steven Beau Broussard, Daryl Kade Broussard; niece Deborah Alcorn King, nephew, Richard Durwood Alcorn, eight great nieces and nephews as well as many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Hardin United Methodist Church, Hwy 146 and FM 834 in Hardin.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at the church. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, at Caldwell Masonic Cemetery in Caldwell, TX.

Barbara M. Stump, 92, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Manor Care Dallastown. She was born March 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Joseph and Floetta (Bistline) Clepper.  She married Delma Stump on March 5, 1939 and they enjoyed 52 years together before Delma's passing in 1991.
 
Barbara was the owner / operator of D&B Cake Decorating & Supplies for 20 years.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and her independence. Barbara was a member of the Dunkard Brethren Church for 77 years. She attended Shiloh God's Missionary Church for 4 years. Though her health declined in recent years, she remained faithful in her singing, prayer and love for the Lord.
 
Barbara is survived by: 2 sons: David (Susan) Stump, and Mark Hart; 3 daughters: Martha Schadle, Gloria Fish, and Miriam Pierce; 10 grandchildren including Melody (Dean) Miller whom she raised and with whom she lived for the past 4 yrs; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother: Paul Clepper Sr.; and more than 30 foster children whom she parented over the years.  Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband: Delma; 1 son: M. Wayne Stump; 1 grandson; and 4 brothers.

Josephine M. Raschilla Clepper, age 90, of Houston, passed away on Monday, the 14th of February 2011. She was born on the 18th of March 1920 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Clepper was "second mom" and "second grandmother" to many. She loved to cook for her family and friends and volunteered tirelessly for many years at MANNA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Edgar Owen Clepper; and her son, the late Louis Anthony Clepper. Mrs. Clepper is survived by her son, James Michael Clepper and his wife Vicki; grandson, Michael E. Clepper; great-grandson, James Michael Clepper, II; sisters, Mary Albano and Angela DiDomenico, both of East Long Meadow, Massachusetts; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 21st of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Rev. Patrick J. Cummings is to officiate.

Montgomery County, Texas

These is no doubt whatsoever that the majority of the new settlers moving into Texas and certainly those who landed in Montgomery, Dobbin, Old Dacus and new Dacus areas worked hard to have schools and churches available for every citizen. The town of Montgomery was beginning to grow and in 1837, Dr. E.J. Arnold, the builder and occupant of our present day City Hall building and the Peel family forefather, along with C.J. Clepper, bought a lot and gave it to the town for use by the Masonic Lodge and a public school. In 1848 a charter was granted, a building was constructed and the legislature incorporated an academy in Montgomery. That 1848 building was replaced in 1895 in the same location. The building stood about where the Liberty Street and Hwy 105 join. I am proud to say that I started to school on that building in 1924. School was held on the first floor and the Lodge held their meeting on the top story.

Stories about the POW’s abound in East Texas.

When a little girl wandered away from her home in Chireno, townspeople searching for her found her in the arms of a German. They were petting a cow.

It turned out that the prisoner, Hans Klepper, saw the little girl standing too close to a railroad track as a train rumbled by. He gently picked her up and, as they walked toward Chireno, they stopped to pet a cow. That’s where the searchers found them.

Using only shovels, German prisoners built at Center an Olympic-size swimming pool that was used for years by the town. Center Mayor John Windham, who helped dedicate Center’s historical marker in January, recalled that County Agent John Mooseburg was instrumental in bringing the POW’s to the town as labor for agricultural work.

With a peak capacity of 700 prisoners, Camp Center was the largest POW camp in the U.S.

Betty was born in Fields Store Community and was the daughter of Virgil and Luda Mae (Clepper) Sheffield. She married John Lewis McClard in May 1957. "Big John" was born on 06 July 1934 in Cherokee County, Texas and died on 22 Apr 2004 in Carthage, Panola County, Texas. Interment for John and Betty were both at the Mason Cemetery in Arp, Smith County, Texas.

Susie Mattie Clepper Martin 1912-2001

Susie Mattie Clepper Martin, 89, of Brenham, died Oct. 31, 2001 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Martin was born September 16, 1912 in Waller County, Texas, to James and Nancy Branock Clepper. She attended Waller County and Brenham schools. She was baptized in First Baptist Church by the Rev. George Cook. On December 24, 1934, she married L.C. Martin in First Baptist Church in Brenham. Mrs. Martin was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Brenham, where she sang in the choir and was Sunday school class president. She was employed at Brentex Mills for 65 years.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Marie and Homer Borgstedte of Houston, Patsy Ann and the Rev. J. B. Bitner of Big Lake, Texas, Gloria Jean and Dr. Donald Draehn of Brenham and Linda Carol and Steve Johnston of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Julian and Geneva Martin of Brenham; grandchildren, Brent and Leila Borgstedte of Houston, Byron and Cindy Bitner of Big Lake, Shelley Beth and Dr. Scott Blanton of San Angelo, Keith Bitner of Big Lake, Marty Martin of Katy, Kristy and Bill Collier of Denver, Colo., Julie Ann Martin of College Station, Ashley and Sam Gumbert of Houston, Rhett Draehn of Houston and Ryan Johnston of Houston; great-grandchildren, Drew, Nicholas and Alexander Borgstedte, Zane Bitner and Samantha and Sabrina Blanton; also special nephew, Marvin Brenemann; and sisters, Georgia Reynolds of Houston and Annie Bell Dryer and Opal Boyer, both of Baytown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Fannie Wendth, Mary Riley, Edna Stokley and Rachel McCoy; brothers, Pat Clepper, Charles Duncan Clepper, James Clepper and T. W. Clepper; husband, L.C. Martin in 1982; and granddaughter, Megan Leigh Johnston in 1997.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 2 in First Baptist Church in Brenham with the Rev. J. B. Bitner officiating. Burial was in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family received visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 1. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Brent Borgstedte, Byron Bitner, Keith Bitner, Marty Martin, Rhett Draehn, Ryan Johnston, Dr. Scott Blanton, Bill Collier and Sam Gumbert.

Susie lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment she could. She loved the Lord and spent much time in church activities and reading the Bible. Mrs. Martin enjoyed her visits in Big Lake including playing in a 42 tournament, meeting new friends and attending Trail Blazers noon meetings. She enjoyed playing cards, her sewing handwork and shared many lasting treasures with her family and friends. She loved traveling with her children and was proud of her work at Brentex Mills for 65 years. She left her mark on all she met and will be sadly missed.

Memorials may be given to your favorite charity. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main Street, in Brenham.

James Alvin "Jimmy" Clepper, 58, of Midland, passed away on January 11, 2006 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Southwest Baptist Church with pastor Verl Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, 2006 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland TX.

He was born to Alvin and Mary Clepper on March 18, 1947 in Lamesa, Texas. He married Laura Schaffrina on july 4, 1996 in Midland, Texas.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Laura Clepper of Midland; one daughter Mischelle Tester and husband Dave of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two sons, Timothy James Clepper and wife Holli of Carlsbad, California, and Donnie James Clepper of Midland, Texas; step-son, Joshua Smith of Midland, Texas; stepdaughter, Wendy Morgan of Midland, Texas; sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Casey Don Clepper.

Deputy Michael Page

Sheriff's Deputy Michael Page was killed in the line of duty on the morning of Saturday, June 30, 2007 north of New Boston in Bowie County, Texas

Michael was responding to a report of a car hitting a telephone pole on Daniel Chapel Road, north of New Boston when he observed a man running into the nearby woods. He pursued the suspect and a scuffle ensued in the woods where Deputy Page was struck over the head and then shot in the shoulder with his own weapon. Paramedics and other officers who responded to the scene located Deputy Page as he walked himself out of the woods. He was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Michael Health Center where he was pronounced dead.

A search team using bloodhounds found the body of the suspect, Henry Leon Wakefield, 36, of DeKalb, Texas in a wooded area near the crash scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Page's funeral mass was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Elizabeth Street, followed by burial at nearby Holy Cross Cemetery. Bowie County Sheriff James Prince and several of Page's fellow deputies escorted the casket in and out of the church. Mourners packed the church and hundreds more stood outside, listening to the service over a speaker. Monsignor Gerald Priest, who officiated the service, spoke of the sorrow of Page's death but also of the need for faith. "Right now, what we need to do in our lives and our Lord is to continue to live and prepare," he said. A 21-gun salute was given as Page was laid to rest. Bowie County Sheriff James Prince presented the American flag to Page's family. After the service, Prince said the entire department feels a great loss as do all the other agencies in Texarkana. He said the officers would "pull together and work together" to get through. "It's a tough time. A tough memory. But memories are good, too," he said.

At 11:21 a.m. Tuesday, Bowie County Deputy Michael Page's unit number was called over local police radios for the last time. The radio supervisor then advised central dispatch that No. 323-Page's unit number-was out of service. "Show 323 out of service. He has gone home."

Deputy Page had served with the Bowie County Sheriff's Department for three years, and had previously served with the Texarkana Police Department for five years. He was the first Bowie County deputy killed in the line of duty since the 1960s. Michael was survived by his parents, three sisters, two brothers in law, two nephews, a stepson, a wife, two young children, and numerous friends. Per his widow, "Michael never got caught up in work politics; he was a good, honest, caring person who was extremely intelligent and hilarious!"
